Aquariums and Fishes
Why an Aquarium and Fish?
Ever wonder why people complete their home or business decor with beautiful aquariums stocked with spectacularly colorful or unusual fish? In a word....tranquility. What could be more tranquil amid any home or business "white noise" than fish swimming tranquilly in an aquarium?
Aquariums and Fish Supplies
There are generally two types of aquarium set ups: fresh water and brackish (salt water), depending upon the type of fish to be stocked. In either case, an aquarium tank must have a filtering system, usually inexpensive to filter water and keep it at a pH level for fish stock to survive. Standing water nearly always "sours" after 2-3 days. Most of these filtering systems use carbon as the flocculant to filter sediment out of the water. These filters require a minimal amount of maintenance and generally last for up to three years with normal use. It's also advisable to use a water temperature gauge to insure that temperature-sensitive fish have a stable water temperature.
Aquarium Sweet Aquarium
In addition to a filtering system for the water, many avid aquariumists love to make a completely scenic vista for their enjoyment by adding an aquarium theme such as tropical, mountain spring, or tranquil lake scenes. Colorful rocks, black lights for noctural fish, various types of boulders, palm trees, even pre-fabricated undersea caverns. Some enthusiasts love to add items through which their beautiful fish can swim: Bridges, small lighthouses, etc.
Size Matters
The size of an aquarium depends on preference and availability of space, for recessed aquariums built into a wall or free-standing aquariums. Quantity of fish is also a consideration before purchasing a tank. Oscars are large fish that grow much larger in a 100 gallon tank. Two are average per tank. Highly intelligent, aggressive fish require a screened top over the tank. When breeding occurs, a second smaller tank is required. Remember, fewer fish in larger tanks grow larger.
Most Popular Fish for Aquariums
The most popular fish for aquariums are goldfish, followed by feathery looking angel fish, black mollies, tetras in varying colors and devil fish. Small seahorses also add interest. Sit back and enjoy!
